The majority of SHSMD members surveyed, 69%, work in a Hospital or Health System organization.

Vice President and Department Director were the two most common titles among SHSMD members surveyed. The ‘other’ category represents write-in answers such as: analyst, assistant vice president, chief communications officer, chief operations officer, and system director.

When SHSMD members identified their primary job category, 38% identified marketing. 21% identified planning and 20% identified public relations/communications as their primary job category. The ‘other’ category represents write-in answers such as: all of the above, administration, business development, operations, and research.

7% of SHSMD members work in national organizations. The most common facility location is in an urban area.

More than half of SHSMD members surveyed have earned their master’s degree.

86% of SHSMD members surveyed have been in the healthcare field for at least six years. 20+ years in healthcare was the most common response; 35% of respondents fit into this range. In 2005 the most common response was 11-20 years in healthcare.
