SHSMD Announces 2016 Award and Recognition Recipients

CHICAGO, IL, August 9, 2016 – The Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development (SHSMD) today announced Terri L. McNorton, vice president, corporate communications for Bon Secours Health System in Marriottsville, Maryland, is the recipient of its 2016 Leadership Excellence Award.

The award is the highest honor a member can receive from SHSMD, a personal membership group of the American Hospital Association (AHA). It recognizes the best and brightest professionals in healthcare strategic planning, marketing, public relations, communications, and physician relations, who, throughout their careers, have:

  • Contributed innovations in their field
  • Enhanced their profession
  • Demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities
  • Achieved strong results for their organizations
  • Shown continual progression in their roles

“Terri embodies the traits of a nimble leader and strategic thinker,” said Lisa Schiller, system vice president for communications and marketing at UNC Health Care in Raleigh, North Carolina, one of several SHSMD members who nominated McNorton.  “She has pioneered many innovative changes for the healthcare organizations where she has been a leader, and has made a major impact on her profession.”

During her career, McNorton has developed and implemented a wide variety of large-scale branding and marketing strategies. She is a nationally recognized expert in evidence-based marketing, leading numerous business development, communications, and marketing initiatives that have increased patient utilization of healthcare services and promoted organizational growth.

Prior to joining Bon Secours, McNorton served as vice president of system marketing at Ochsner Health System in New Orleans. She is a previous member of the society’s board of directors.

Rising Star Recognition
SHSMD also announced Lisa A. Crockett, senior director of strategy and planning at Providence Health & Services in Renton, Washington, has been named a 2016 Rising Star. The recognition honors those in the healthcare strategy disciplines under the age of 40 who are making meaningful differences in their profession, are highly successful within their organization, and are on a trajectory for future success.

The Leadership Excellence Award and Rising Star Recognition will be presented at SHSMD’s annual conference in Chicago on September 12.
