CHICAGO, IL, August 24, 2017 – The Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development (SHSMD) today announced Jeffrey Kraut, executive vice president of strategy and analytics for Northwell Health in New Hyde Park, New York, is the recipient of the 2017 SHSMD Leadership Excellence Award.
The award is the highest honor a member can receive from SHSMD, a Professional Membership Group of the American Hospital Association. It recognizes the best and brightest professionals in healthcare strategic planning, marketing, public relations, communications, and physician relations, who, throughout their careers, have:
“Jeff is tireless in his efforts to improve community health and access to healthcare services for all New Yorkers—regardless of an individual’s resources,” said Jerrold Hirsch, PhD, vice president of strategic planning at Northwell Health. “He is also dedicated to educating the next generation of professionals by ingraining the principles and techniques of strategy and analytics.”
During his 40-year career, Jeff has been recognized for his commitment to innovation and integrity. At Northwell Health, he is responsible for helping to grow the $11 billion healthcare enterprise through merger, acquisition, and affiliated relationships. He is also associate dean of strategy in the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine and a mentor for the Northwell Center for Learning and Innovation Administrative Fellowship and High Potential Programs.
Jeff was appointed by the previous four governors of New York State to serve as a board member on the Public Health and Health Planning Council and its predecessor, the State Hospital Review and Planning Council. In 2015, Governor Cuomo appointed Jeff as its chair, one of the few non-physician chairs in its 104-year history.A SHSMD board member since 2013, Jeff has also served on a wide range of SHSMD committees and task forces, in areas such as executive strategies, advocacy and competencies, strategic planning, annual conference and education, and finance.
SHSMD Rising Star
SHSMD also announced Julia Yoder, director of public relations and marketing at Brookings Health System in Brookings, South Dakota, has been named 2017 SHSMD Rising Star. The recognition honors those in the healthcare strategy disciplines under the age of 40 who are making meaningful differences in their profession, are highly successful within their organization, and are on a trajectory for future success.
Awards will be presented at the Society’s annual conference, SHSMD Connections 2017, in Orlando, Florida, on September 25.
