According to a recent report from the AHA, the Medicare Advantage (MA) program now accounts for more than half of total Medicare enrollment. While MA offers some benefits for beneficiaries, the program poses an undue burden and risk to small, rural hospitals. Some MA plan tactics include reimbursing hospitals below traditional Medicare reimbursement rates, delaying or denying payments for care, and creating administrative hurdles for staff. In this session, Brookings Health System’s marketing and public relations director, Julia Yoder, will share how Brookings Health carefully announced to their community in Summer 2023 that they would no longer be in network with Medicare Advantage (MA) plans, effective January 2024.
Learning Objectives:
- Apply valuable findings to your own organization’s MA strategy
- Hear what communication methods were most effective and lessons learned
- Walk away with tangible communication examples, ready for R&D (robbing & duplicating)
