Which groups have the most influence over the public narrative about healthcare today, and which groups should? The distance between those two answers is the Influence Gap, and it is uncomfortable for every institution in healthcare.

Drawing on findings from the 2026 SachsHEALTH Influence Index, a national study of 2,500 U.S. adults, this session explores whom Americans trust, which voices shape their health care decisions, and where hospitals have opportunities to strengthen their influence. This session will share the latest data on what people believe, whom they trust, and what would change their minds. Attendees leave with practical strategies for closing the Influence Gap, evidence on which messengers and messages move people, and a self-assessment to run against their own program the next day.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify where their organization sits within the Influence Gap and the audiences and issues where greater influence may be needed.
  2. Recognize which messengers, messages, and communication approaches are most likely to build trust with patients, employees, and communities.
  3. Apply the Index's recommended strategies to identify one opportunity to strengthen their organization's influence and engagement.
