National Minority Quality Forum
Observed every April, National Minority Health Month (NMHM) aims to call attention to and eliminate disparities in access to healthcare and health outcomes in underserved communities. Booker T. Washington started National Negro Health Week in 1915 to combat high death rates in African American communities, arguing that good health was essential for progress in all areas of life. This week-long event encouraged local communities to get involved in improving health. In 1998, the National Minority Quality Forum established National Minority Health Month (NMHM), continuing Washington's work. It officially launched in April 2001. A year later, Congress officially recognized April as NMHM to emphasize the government's commitment to reducing health disparities. Today, NMHM focuses on raising awareness of inequities in healthcare, advocating for policy changes, and promoting initiatives to improve health outcomes for all minority populations.

Shape Up Us
Clap4Health! An Innovative Movement for Wellness Clap4Health!; created by Shape Up US; is a unique physical activity that promotes health; happiness; and community engagement through the simple act of clapping. This engaging movement allows anyone to participate; making it a fun and inclusive way to integrate physical activity into schools; homes; and communities. The Science Behind Clapping The benefits of clapping are rooted in Acupressure Theory: โข Our hands contain 28 of the 340 known pressure points in the body; meaning that stimulating these points by clapping can activate both mental and physical well-being. โข Clapping stimulates endorphin release; enhancing happiness and emotional well-being. โข When combined with movement activities like dance and sports; it helps improve motor skills; spatial awareness; and cognitive function. This is why clapping feels so goodโit activates positive energy within the body; reinforcing the emotional benefits of gratitude and appreciation. Program Impact and National Reach The Clap4Health! program is being implemented in schools; businesses; and organizations nationwide; helping to learn about the power of staying active through joyful; intentional movement. It offers a non-intimidating form of physical activity that: โข Encourages inclusivity by welcoming participants of all ages and abilities. โข Promotes emotional well-being by linking physical movement with positive expressions like clapping. โข Enhances social bonds within groups; whether in classrooms; sports teams; or community gatherings.
