SHSMD ADVANCE™ | Assess: Health Care Strategist Self-Assessment

The SHSMD ADVANCE™ | Assess tool helps health care strategists – including marketers, planners, business developers, communicators, and physician strategists – evaluate and strengthen the skills needed for success in today’s evolving health care landscape.

Grounded in SHSMD’s Bridging Worlds: The Future Role of the Health Care Strategist report, this self-assessment provides valuable insight into your current capabilities and areas for growth. Use it to guide your professional development and enhance your leadership effectiveness.

How It Works

The self-assessment measures two key factors for each skill or attribute:

  1. Performance – How effectively you demonstrate this skill (from Very Effective to Address Urgently).
  2. Importance – How critical this skill is to your current role or future career goals (from Critical to Irrelevant).

It takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Read each item carefully and provide two ratings to proceed. You can save your progress and return later if needed.

Understanding Your Results

Your results will help you identify both your strengths and development opportunities:

  1. Review the skills you rated highest and lowest in Performance.
  2. Note which skills you rated as Critical or Very Important in Importance.
  3. Look for areas where both ratings align – these are your core strengths to leverage.
  4. Pay attention to any gaps between high Importance and lower Performance – these represent growth opportunities to focus on.

Role Reflection

After reviewing your results, take time to reflect on what they mean for your current role or career aspirations. Identify the skills or attributes you’d like to strengthen to reach your professional goals and build your development plan accordingly.

Tips:

  • Select “Unable to Rate” if a skill does not apply to your position.
  • Use the Continue and Go Back buttons to navigate or edit responses.
