Does engaging with our patients through the use of healthy lifestyle apps and wearable devices improve their overall health? We analyzed patients' behavior before and after they visited Ochsner's O Bar, the first-of-it's kind "genius bar"for health and wellness technology, where patients are able to test physician-recommended apps and interactive products designed to improve their health. The state-of-the-art bar is equipped with iPads and the latest health technology such as blood glucose monitors and scales that email results to physicians and wireless blood pressure cuffs that work with smartphones. At the O Bar, a wide range of patients—including those who have diabetes, high cholesterol or a desire to stop smoking—can test the best technology to manage their health and wellness.
